Asphalt pothole repair

The damage of winter especially on roads starts showing round about the beginning of spring. This is due to the weather change where it starts to get warm melting the snow. Contraction and expansion during the water cycle of freeze-thaw, when combined with heavy traffic results in potholes. Regular freezing and thawing of snow mixed with rain that falls in spring cripples the pavements and ushers in cracks and eventually potholes. That is why potholes get worse or multiply during spring. Potholes can be repaired using cold patch which dries out over time. Unfortunately, because cold patch is a quick and easy solution, where it has been used to repair potholes, the repairs have not lasted which then calls for full depth or permanent repair.

Hot mix asphalt, on the other hand, is a durable type of asphalt that is ideal for long-lasting pothole repairs. The severe weather experienced in Alberta makes hot mix asphalt the best option for businesses and municipalities that require proper pothole repairs this spring. Nextsteps offers hot mix asphalt specially designed for Alberta climate, and ensure that pothole repairs for your business or municipality are carried out in a timely manner that is cost-effective because customer satisfaction is our number one priority.

Asphalt removal and disposal

Asphalt has a finite life span that can be prolonged by proper maintenance but never avoided.  Over time due to natural elements exposure, asphalts’ appearance deteriorates. When it gets to the point where water has seeped through cracks, holes are formed and the substrate is compromised, the most practical form of repair is to remove the deteriorated asphalt and replace it.  Nextstep will ensure that the asphalt is discarded completely in a safe manner and disposed of at the proper facilities for reclamation.

Asphalt Resurfacing/overlay

As asphalt surfaces are expected to last a long time, to ensure the substrate doesn’t get compromised and need replacement often,  A resurface or overlay can be done. This is where a layer of asphalt is placed on top of an existing layer. The finished look is the same as a complete re-paving job. Nextstep provided this service to our clients who save a considerable amount of money and enjoy the fresh completed look of the resurf

Asphalt Parking lot

For establishments that have a parking lot, keeping it in good condition gives a good first impression to the visitors. Making sure asphalt damages are kept to a minimum also increased the value of the property. Parking lots that have high traffic experience high asphalt damage rate, meaning they’ll need to be repaired or replaced more often than those that have low traffic. Nextstep team is able to provide advice and consultation with the client and establish the most suitable solution for their need. Besides making regular repairs to the parking lot saves clients expenses in the long term.

Asphalt Base Work

Full-depth asphalt is a surface made of entirely asphalt mixture. One of its benefits is that it provides a great balance of flexibility, strength, and durability. The soil in Alberta is unique in that it has very high clay content.  To improve soil stability it is often necessary to remove crush that has been contaminated by clay and replace it. A good base requires intense compaction to provide a firm foundation for the intended surface purpose. It is often advisable to use a geotextile material between the crush and the clay to prevent future contamination, a technique that is highly favored by the Nextstep.

Asphalt Maintenance

Asphalt will deteriorate over time which will lead to line cracks and/or “spidering” in sections.  Regular and proper maintenance will drastically extend the overall lifespan of the asphalt surface.  Making sure that water does not get below the asphalt surface and wash away the base is paramount and a small expense now and then will lead to substantial savings in the future.
